Our Mission

The University of Miami Information Security Office (ISO) works to protect University systems, data, and digital resources. We partner with the University community to promote a secure technology environment, reduce cybersecurity risks, and support the safe use of information and technology.


Core Functions

Security Governance

  • We help guide the University's cybersecurity strategy, standards, and priorities to support a secure and resilient technology environment.

Policies and Standards

  • We develop and maintain information security policies, standards, and guidelines that help protect University data and systems while supporting the University's mission.

Security Awareness and Education

  • We provide training, resources, and communications that help faculty, staff, and students recognize cybersecurity risks and make informed security decisions.

Identity and Access Management

  • We support efforts that help ensure the right people have appropriate access to University resources while protecting accounts and sensitive information.

Risk Assessment

  • We assess and help address cybersecurity risks associated with technology solutions, business processes, and third-party services used by the University.

Vulnerability Management

  • We work with technology teams across the University to identify and address security weaknesses and strengthen the protection of University systems.

Regulatory Compliance

  • We support the University's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contractual obligations, and industry requirements related to information security and privacy.

Incident Response

  • We coordinate the University's response to cybersecurity incidents, helping to investigate issues, reduce impact, and improve future security practices.

Business Continuity and Resilience

  • We support efforts that help University technology services remain available and recover from disruptions, ensuring continuity of critical operations.
